The Emergence of Bitcoin

Who is the creator of Bitcoin? This question is one of the leading mysteries for Bitcoin since its launch. Little is known about the creator known as Satoshi Nakamoto, and he disappeared into thin air after launching Bitcoin White Paper.

Nakamoto’s importance for the Bitcoin ecosystem goes beyond being a founder. For example, each side of the Bitcoin SV and Bitcoin Cash forks claimed that Nakamoto maintained his original vision.

The founder of Bitcoin also has a large cryptocurrency store worth $ 5.8 billion, according to Time magazine. Given that there will be only 21 million Bitcoins in the future, the price of Bitcoin in Nakamoto’s possession has the potential to significantly affect its prices when purchased and sold.

Although there have been researches about the identity of Nakamoto, they have not gone beyond guesswork. In this article, we will talk about the 3 most probable names.

Dorian Nakamoto

This was perhaps the closest profile to being Bitcoin’s founder. In an article on Newsweek, Dorian Nakamoto was suggested as Satoshi Nakamoto. The identity of the creator of Bitcoin was revealed under the title Dorian Nakamoto and claimed to be the real Satoshi Nakamoto.

Newsweek pointed to several similarities between Satoshi and  Dorian Nakamoto. For example, both have libertarian tendencies and a Japanese connection. (Dorian is a Japanese-American who holds a physics degree from California Polytechnic and works in secret defense projects). The author of the article claimed that Nakamoto voiced his indifference to Bitcoin and that he handed it over to others.

Nakamoto later denied the allegations and claimed that he had misunderstood the question. He thought the Newsweek journalist had asked him about his previous work with Citibank. The magazine’s biggest mistake was to publish a photo of Nakamoto’s house.

As some security experts have pointed out, searching for an image on the Internet made it easy to pinpoint the exact location. Although they did not believe that Dorian Nakamoto was the founder of Bitcoin, the crypto community was shocked.

In short, Dorian was a highly likely name to be Satoshi Nakamoto, but he was not the answer to the question of who created Bitcoin.

Craig Wright

Wright, an Australian scientist, introduced himself to the world at a Bitcoin Investor Conference in Las Vegas in 2015. Later, Wired magazine wrote an article about Wright, in which he claimed that he had the strongest evidence about Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity.

This article reveals Nakamoto’s blog entries and similarities in the timestamps in Wright’s blog. Wright also said: “I have been running Bitcoin since 2009.”

The evidences looked solid. However, later published articles questioned whether he was the right Satoshi. For example, one article questioned the validity of timestamps on Wright’s blog. Someone else doubted his credentials.

Slowly and precisely, evidence and facts have emerged that have solved the case of Wright’s claim to be Nakamoto. Even Vitalik Buterin, who refrained from making a statement about it, disclaimed Wright’s identification as Satoshi.

Nick Szabo

Nick Szabo is a computer engineer and legal scholar. He invented BitGold, the pioneer of smart contracts and Bitcoin. In a publication, he defined Bitgold as a protocol in which reasonable cost bits can be created online with minimal dependence on trusted third parties. This is to validate operations in a manner similar to the Bitcoin concept of a set of bits generated by a leaderless computer network.

Many bloggers and book authors have suggested that Szabo’s extensive knowledge made him a suitable candidate to be Satoshi Nakamoto. For example, the English writer found similarities comparing Szabo’s writing style to that of Nakamoto. He referred to the work of economist Carl Menger:  “Szabo actually worked at Chaum’s Digicash in the 1990s. I even found the old Digicash email address” says Frisby.
